Role:
Wayfinding Strategy & Design
Client:
Queenstown Lakes District Council
As part of major streetscape improvements in Queenstown, DallowBoss was commissioned by Queenstown Lakes District Council to devise a Pedestrian Wayfinding Strategy and subsequently design wayfinding features to help improve visitor navigation.
Collaborating closely with LandLab, QLDC project teams, and Aukaha, a family of 12 modular map panels was developed, utilising materials and forms that align with the new streetscape designs. The 2.8m tall structures act as place markers and present heads-up, map-based information to convey the layout of the town centre and locate key destinations. The use of vibrant blues reflects the colours of Whakatipu Waimāori, Lake Whakatipu.
Māori place naming was a key principle in the project, with a bespoke regional place name map to convey the Māori names of local landmarks and destinations.
