Bristol Legible City
Role:
Client:
As part of the wider Bristol Legible City Initiative, Bristol City Council was looking to create a distinctive visual identity for its streets that integrated pedestrian and transport information.
Barnaby had a lead role in the conceptualisation, development and implementation of the ground-breaking system while under previous employment. Bristol Legible City set the benchmark for pedestrian wayfinding and has inspired many systems world-wide. Now over 20 years old, it continues to evolve and be added to as the city develops.
The design reflects the city’s pioneering, industrial and creative heritage with the extensive use of stainless steel and innovative vitreous enamel map graphics, while LED lighting integrated into the spines of the map panel structures create a visual beacon at night.
