Auckland’s Original Foreshore

Role:

Interpretation planning & design

Client:

Auckland Council

DallowBoss collaborated with Auckland Council’s Heritage Unit to design and implement a collection of 24 interpretation panels placed along a 5km heritage walk following Auckland’s original foreshore from Point Erin Pools to the Parnell Baths.

Auckland’s foreshore is of great cultural significance to a variety of local iwi and has seen great change over time. Clues to this fascinating history are abundant – but only when you know where to look!

A Waitemata Local Board project sought to reveal and highlight these stories with a walking route winding along the original foreshore, passing through a range of modern environments and historical locations. They capture slices of history and provide opportunities for readers to place themselves in the historical environment and better understand the use of the foreshore over time.
